Many of you have written to ask why The Armed Citizen’s pages have become stale and dormant.

I must offer both my gratitude and my apologies for the way the site has shaped up. (Or, rather, shaped down.)

This website personally cost me a great deal of effort and personal funds to develop. I had a vision for creating a powerhouse of resources, news, tips and information for you, and for the burgeoning base of armed citizens in America. However, when we relaunched on New Years Day 2011, the traffic remained less than half our original numbers at the old blog, which made it difficult to sell any advertising to make it profitable.

Furthermore, the effort-per-output ratio changed because of Righthaven. Before, it was as simple as copying relevant paragraphs. Now, each story requires an individual rewrite.

My friends, I left my job to pursue this website, and even postponed law school in part because I believed I could make this website worth everyone’s while. Now that the first quarter has had the results it has, I am prioritizing a job search in an economy that does not favor the unemployed, even those with a degree.

I hope to find ways of streamlining the website, possibly relaunching it utilizing Facebook, which automatically excerpts articles — no copyright trolls could ever complain or demand $75,000 for reposting content that is already freely disseminated elsewhere.

A pizza delivery driver with a concealed carry permit used his gun to defend himself after three men tried to rob him.

A man fired in self-defense after another man he met at a bar attempted to break into his house following an altercation.

Due to the increase in effort and labor to paraphrase every article brought on by the Righthaven lawsuits, The Armed Citizen is going to be moving more towards link-only, with maybe a sentence describing the nature of the crime. The time it takes to read and restate the essentials of a story without infringing is becoming too great.

This is an update to a defensive gun use story posted on the archives before Righthaven forced us to remove them.

An armed pastor confronted two juveniles attempting to steal from a church remodeling project. The teens first pleaded, then threatened, the pastor, who held the men for police.

Four men in ski masks and armed with a pistol tried to hold up a Sacramento Market. The owner denied the robbers by firing a shot in the air, prompting their quick retreat.

A female homeowner shot one of several intruders breaking into her home in Pennsylvania. The woman was wounded but is expected to recover; one intruder was killed, the others retreated.

An armed homeless man confronted two citizens and tried to break into their car. The owners were present, but rather than complying with the gunman’s demands, they drew weapons of their own, shooting the would-be robber. Neither armed citizen has been charged.
